A passport book is required for travel to Mozambique. Your passport must be valid for 6 months after your arrival date and have at least 2 blank pages or you will be denied entry.
US citizens are REQUIRED to have tourist visas for travel to Mozambique. US visitors must either obtain a visa from an embassy in advance of travel or obtain a visa on arrival at the airport or a land border. The visa on arrival is significantly easier and cheaper to obtain, costing approximately $50 USD for a single entry visa valid for 30 days. The Mozambique Embassy in Washington DC processes applications for advance visas for US citizens. The cost for normal processing is $160 USD for single entry visas (30 days) and $180 for multiple entry visas (90 days). If you are not a US citizen, check the visa requirements for your country.
There are no required vaccines for Mozambique, EXCEPT that Yellow Fever (YF) vaccine is REQUIRED if traveling from a country with risk of YF virus transmission, including transit in an airport located in such countries. There is limited availability of the YF vaccine in the US, so plan ahead if you need it. Because Mozambique is a high-risk malaria country, a malaria prophylaxis is also recommended (optional). Check the CDC Website for more information about recommended vaccines and anti-malarial medications.
All visitors must present a Covid vaccination card showing full vaccination OR a negative Covid PCR test administered within 72 hours of arrival. Airlines require a negative Covid PCR test for unvaccinated persons upon departure.
The arrival and departure airport is Maputo International Airport (MPM) in the capital city, Maputo.
Flights are not included in the tour price and must be purchased separately by attendees. Guests can travel from their home city to Maputo or they can travel from their home city to Johannesburg, South Africa and then travel to Maputo from there.
For Maputo, Qatar Airways and Ethiopian Airlines appear to have the best flight options. An alternative is to fly to Johannesburg, South Africa, then fly to Maputo from there. Flights from the USA to South Africa are typically cheaper and require less connections for some US cities. We can assist with selecting the best option for your departure city. For Vilankulo, LAM Mozambique Airlines and Airlink have the only routes.
