Kenya
Officially the Republic of Kenya, Kenya is a country in East Africa, bordered by South Sudan to the northwest, Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the east, Uganda to the west, Tanzania to the south, and the Indian Ocean to the southeast. Kenya's capital and largest city is Nairobi. The oldest and second largest city is the coastal city of Mombasa.
Kenya is famed for its scenic landscapes, fabulous beaches, vast wildlife reserves, and rich cultures. But it is probably most famous for its annual wildebeest migration at the Maasai Mara reserve. Every year more than 2 million animals trek from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the greener pastures of the Maasai Mara. July to October is the best time to see this marvel of nature.
Kenya is a multi-ethnic and multi-lingual society and most blend tradition and modernity with ease. The largest ethnic group is the Kikuyu, living mostly in the area of Mount Kenya. The Maasai are one of its most prominent ethnic groups, known for their traditional nomadic lifestyle, signature red shuka cloth, tall height, and jumping dance. Along the coast, Swahili culture is most prominent.
Popular attractions include the Nairobi National Park, the Giraffe Centre, David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, , the beaches at Mombasa, Lamu and Diani, Mount Kenya, the Great Rift Valley, and tea and coffee plantations.
