Chale Wote is a free annual street art festival held every August in Accra, Ghana. Known for its vibrant street art and community murals, Chale Wote features flamboyant processions, exhibitions, art fairs, masquerade parties, fashion parades, and more. Chale Wote translates to “Friend, let’s go” in the local Ga language.

Each year, Chale Wote has a different theme and performances that challenge societal norms and raise conversations around important issues. This year’s theme “The Orbs Beneath the Nile Lead to Kongo” will feature interdisciplinary artists whose work examines the universal effects of imperialism in Congo. Artists will examine this theme through perspectives of Congo’s protracted conflict, social hierarchies, consumer culture, and the vicious power dynamics embedded within its borders. Expect to see works that document and highlight African and Afro-diasporic history and cultural lineages with roots in Congo.

Chale Wote 2025 will be held August 18 – 25, 2025. It promises 8 days of non-stop fun for visitors who have the energy to keep up. Join artists and travelers from around the world to experience the best of African art, music and culture.
